Yesterday (29th October) the Higham Ferrers blue heritage plaques were officially unveiled by Cllr Wendy Brackenbury, (Chairman, East Northamptonshire Council), Cllr Steven North (Leader, East Northamptonshire Council) and Cllr Jason Smithers (Mayor, Higham Ferrers Town Council). The town is suffering a spate of arsons at the moment. The picture is of damage at the Bowls Club that occurred in August. The Town Council is working with the Police and East Northamptonshire Council to catch the offender. The Town Council ask that you are vigilant and contact the Police if you see anything suspicious. Your help is needed to catch the offender and stop this crime.

Have you seen these blue plaques appearing on buildings with an interesting fact about the building or its history? There are now 14 on various buildings which link up with the recently updated Heritage Trail. This is part of a larger project to promote the heritage of Higham Ferrers and encourage more visitors to the town. In addition it will enable residents to learn more about their local area

In a surprise and welcome move the future of Higham Ferrers library could be assured, at least for some months, after a plan involving volunteer staff was proposed at a meeting hosted by Higham Ferrers Town Council in early October.

We would like to draw your attention to the Civil Aviation Authority's DroneCode which provides safety advice on the flying of drones for recreational purposes.
The code says that drones should not be flown within: 150ft (50m) of people and properties or 500ft (150m) of crowds and built up areas.
This means that the parks and other sites that we own are generally not suitable for the flying of drones... Read More »

The Heritage Family Fun Day will be held at Rushden Lakes and is one of the many events taking place as part of the Nene Valley Festival (15th to 23rd September) and the National Heritage Open Weekends.

On Merchant Navy Day, 3 September, Higham Ferrers Town Council will fly the Red Ensign at Market Square to raise awareness of the UK's ongoing dependence on Merchant Navy seafarers. The Deputy Mayor ( Cllr Chris O'Rourke ) will say a few words when the flag is hoisted at 10am on 3rd September.
