Mayor of Higham Ferrers 2025-26
The Mayor of Higham Ferrers for 2025-26 is Councillor Gary Salmon. Gary will be accompanied to events by his partner, The Mayoress, Mrs Heather Salmon. The Deputy Mayor for 2025-26 is Councillor Chris O'Rourke.
Cllr Gary Salmon's Mayor Making Ceremony took place on Monday 12th May 2025. Councillors and invited guests gathered in the Council Chamber to witness Cllr Salmon take his oath and be declared the Mayor of Higham Ferrers for 2025-26.
"Good evening everybody and thank you all so very much for attending this evening.
I am truly honoured to be elected Mayor of this wonderful town of Higham Ferrers for the 2025/26 Mayoral year. I will perform my duties as first citizen of Higham Ferrers with dignity and grace knowing I have the support of my fellow councillors.
I first moved to Higham Ferrers nearly 23 years ago, I clearly remember driving along the High Street thinking "this is a lovely place, we should make a home here" and I'm so glad we did! We have met many lovely people and made many great friends and of course, raised a family.
The town of course has changed over the years but in many ways stayed the same which is one of the reasons why I think is so appealing.
I first joined the council just over four years ago, like many new councillors before me, it was a bit overwhelming but thanks to the warm welcome I received from my fellow councillors and of course volunteering for a number of working parties and committees, I soon felt at home, so thank you all my fellow councillors so very much for that support.
As Mayor I will be attending as many events as I possibly can and as I have said, representing the Town at them will be an honour. I will be raising funds for volunteer led youth groups of the town, scouts and girl guides associations, girls brigade, army cadets and other teams all of which are led by volunteers, who in some instances have given decades of service to the young of the Town. I believe they deserve our support and recognition for the impact they have had on hundreds of young lives.
In doing all this, I will be supported by my wife Heather as Mayoress and of course Councillor Chris O'Rourke as Deputy Mayor.
Finally, I would like to say thank you to the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Paul, and his wife Anita, who have done a tremendous job representing the Town and raising funds for the charity.
At closure of this meeting, I would like to invite you all to the Bede House for drinks and nibbles and of course some cake."
