Consultation on the proposed change to the provision of Northamptonshire Libraries and Information Services

Consultation on the proposed change to the provision of Northamptonshire Libraries and Information Services

In October 2017 a public consultation was held around three proposals for the future of Northamptonshire Libraries. Details of this consultation are available on our website www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/past-consulations

Following a Judicial Review in August 2018, the decision to keep 15 libraries under Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) control and offer the other 21 to community groups to be run as independent libraries was quashed. In September 2018, the new Chief Executive of the NCC conducted a new review of the library service, to make sure that NCC delivers its statutory duty to provide a "comprehensive and efficient" library service, whilst achieving the necessary savings for the Council by identifying opportunities to work with community groups to co-produce community managed libraries where possible. Following meetings with community groups, parishes and Borough and District councils, individual proposals have been identified for nearly every library within the county. We are now consulting on these proposals for each individual library.

We are still working closely with some communities to develop solutions for the following libraries, so these eight libraries are not part of this consultation. We will consult on the proposals for these eight libraries at a later date once they are available:

  • Abington
  • Duston
  • Far Cotton
  • Finedon
  • Higham Ferrers
  • Irchester
  • Long Buckby
  • St James

Please let us know if you would like us to contact you when the consultation on a library not currently being consulted upon begins.

Please see our website for further information and details of the proposals for each library.

Have your say

You can give us your views in a number of ways. Please visit our website for all of the different ways you can give your feedback, including our online questionnaire.

This consultation closes on 8 February 2019.

Details of the above and other past and present consultations are available on Northamptonshire County Council's Consultation Register.
