Making History

Making History' at Stanwick Lakes!

Come along to Stanwick Lakes on the 23rd or 24th September and be a part of 'Making History'! This fabulous FREE two day Victorian event will have a whole host of Traditional Crafts demonstrations, the amazing re-enactor group 'The Ragged Victorians' (as seen in the Times newspaper), Morris dancers, period music, family activities and traditional refreshments.

The 'Making History' weekend celebrates the completion of Rockingham Forest Trust's four year Heritage Lottery funded project, Trading Places. It is also the finale event of the 2017 Nene Valley Festival which celebrates the Wildlife, Heritage and Culture of the Nene Valley. The event is free and runs from 11am to 4pm on both days, standard car parking charges apply.

Try your hand at many of the activities including Wool Spinning, Brick Making, Basket Weaving and Lace Making. Watch other crafts people at work and discover more about Blacksmithing, Green Wood Working, Shoe Making, and Wood Carving.

There will also be an exciting children's "Making History" trail with prizes, Victorian 'dressing up' and the chance to make a traditional Peg Doll. Discover how local communities in this area have been bringing to life the traditional trades and crafts that were once so important in our towns and villages.

And don't forget to try the great traditional food; including a Hog Roast, Hokey Pokey Ice Cream and Pork Pies.

Help us create a great Victorian atmosphere by coming dressed up to the event! Great prizes will be on offer for the best dressed ' Victorians' at our 'Making History' weekend.

For more information about this event, visit the Trading Places Nene Valley Facebook page, www.stanwicklakes.org.uk, or ring 01933 625522. To get involved in the Nene Valley Festival visit www.nenevalley.net , tweet @_nenevalley and use #nenevalley2017.

Sat, 30 Sep 2017 09:00

Higham Ferrers Farmers' Market is held in the historic market square between 9am and 1pm on the last Saturday of each month except in December when it is moved to the last available Saturday before Christmas.

Our Farmers Market is accredited to the FARMA ASSOCATION is a very successful monthly market, with over 20 stalls each offering something different.

The produce varies from Aberdeen Angus beef, Organic Eggs and Vegetables, to Italian peppers, Organic Pork and Lamb, Free Range Poultry, Coffee, Artisan Bread, Pork in all its forms in addition to pickles, Pies, Cupcakes, Olives, Baklava, Fruit and Honey, Preserves, Plants, Cheese, Crayfish, Hot Scotch Eggs, Indian style pickles and chutneys and much, much more.

When you visit the market you are able to purchase fresh produce direct from the stall holders and ask any questions with regards to the provenance. They are always willing to offer you their advice and even some recipes.

The FARMA association visits and inspects the market to ensure it complies with a strict set of rules and to ensure that all the stall holders are operating within the rules.

We regularly provide extra activities such as our Annual Free raffle, our Birthday in April and Father Christmas joins us along with a brass band in December.
