About the Council

The Council came into being in 1974 upon the re-organisation of Local Government, and is the successor Council to Higham Ferrers Borough Council which was in existence from 1251 to 1974.
The Council consists of 16 elected Councillors and elects a Mayor and Deputy Mayor at the Annual Meeting of the Council in May of each year.

The Mayor for 2009/10 is Councillor Mrs. Anna Sauntson and the Deputy Mayor is Councillor Mrs. Val Newbery.
The Council meets on the last Tuesday of each month except in December when the meeting is moved to the last available Tuesday prior to Christmas. The Council also has the following committees;
Policy and Establishment Committee - Meets bi-monthly
Sports and Recreation Advisory Committee - Meets 3 times per annum
Natural Environment Advisory Committee - Meets 3 times per annum

The offices at the Town Hall are open from 0930a.m. to 1.00p.m. Monday to Friday when visitors will be seen by appointment. As we only have a limited staff you are requested to make an appointment in order to ensure that adequate time is allowed to discuss any issues you wish to raise.
